Detection & IOCsextracted from sources · hover to see the quote
- →Vulnerability is a Use-After-Free in WebCore::Style::TreeResolver::styleForElement, triggered via crafted web content manipulating DOM elements (appendChild, scrollIntoView) across event handlers ↗
- →ASan memory pattern shows freed heap region (0xfd bytes) being accessed — heap UAF crash signature useful for crash triage/fuzzing harness validation ↗
- →PoC exploit uses DOM manipulation via appendChild() and scrollIntoView() across multiple event handlers to trigger the UAF condition in WebKit's style resolver ↗
- →Crash process PID 30588 aborted by ASan — monitor for WebKit/Safari/WebContent process crashes with ABORTING signal as potential exploitation indicator ↗
- ·Vulnerability affects multiple Apple products; patched versions are iOS 11.1, Safari 11.0.1, iCloud for Windows 7.1, iTunes 12.7.1 for Windows, and tvOS 11.1 — detection should target unpatched versions of these products ↗
- ·Debian WebKitGTK fix landed in version 2.18.1-1 across all tracked branches (bookworm, bullseye, forky, sid, trixie) — Linux environments running older WebKitGTK are also in scope ↗

WebKitGTK+ vulnerabilities

CVE-2017-13783 WebKitGTK+ vulnerabilities
Title: WebKitGTK+ vulnerabilities
Summary: Several security issues were fixed in WebKitGTK+.
A large number of security issues were discovered in the WebKitGTK+ Web and
JavaScript engines. If a user were tricked into viewing a malicious
website, a remote attacker could exploit a variety of issues related to web
browser security, including cross-site scripting attacks, denial of service
attacks, and arbitrary code execution.
Instructions: This update uses a new upstream release, which includes additional bug
fixes. After a standard system update you need to restart any applications
that use WebKitGTK+, such as Epiphany, to make all the necessary changes.
