An issue was discovered in Schneider Electric Tableau Server/Desktop Versions 7.0 to 10.1.3 in Wonderware Intelligence Versions 2014R3 and prior. These versions contain a system account that is installed by default. The default system account is difficult to configure with non-default credentials after installation, and changing the default credentials in the embedded Tableau Server is not documented. If Tableau Server is used with Windows integrated security (Active Directory), the software is not vulnerable. However, when Tableau Server is used with local authentication mode, the software is vulnerable. The default system account could be used to gain unauthorized access.

Detection & IOCsextracted from sources · hover to see the quote
- →Detect use of the default system account in Tableau Server running in local authentication mode (not Active Directory/Windows integrated security), which indicates potential exploitation of the hardcoded default credentials. ↗
- →Monitor for unauthorized administrative privilege escalation on hosts running Wonderware Intelligence with embedded Tableau Server versions 7.0 through 10.1.3. ↗
- →Flag any remote authentication attempts to Tableau Server using the default built-in system account, especially over the network without prior authentication (PR:N, UI:N per CVSS vector). ↗
- ·The vulnerability only applies when Tableau Server is configured in local authentication mode. Deployments using Windows integrated security (Active Directory) are NOT vulnerable. ↗
- ·Changing the default credentials in the embedded Tableau Server is not documented, making remediation non-trivial without applying the vendor patch. Detection rules should account for the persistence of default credentials even on patched-adjacent systems. ↗
- ·No known public exploits specifically target this vulnerability at time of advisory publication, reducing immediate weaponized exploit risk but not eliminating manual abuse of default credentials. ↗
