A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Integrated Management Controller (IMC) Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to inject and execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of command input by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted commands to the web-based management interface of the affected software. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to inject and execute arbitrary, system-level commands with root privileges on an affected device.

Detection & IOCsextracted from sources · hover to see the quote

  • Exploit vector is authenticated HTTP requests with crafted command input sent to the Cisco IMC web-based management interface; monitor for anomalous or shell-metacharacter-containing input in IMC web UI requests
  • Successful exploitation results in arbitrary system-level command execution with root privileges on the device; monitor for unexpected root-level process spawning from the IMC web service process
  • Track Cisco bug IDs CSCvi34410, CSCvi45098, and CSCvi46942 for affected firmware versions and patch status when triaging IMC devices
  • ·Exploitation requires the attacker to be authenticated to the Cisco IMC web-based management interface; unauthenticated access alone is insufficient to trigger this vulnerability
  • ·No workarounds are available for this vulnerability; patching via Cisco software updates is the only remediation path
