CVE-2018-10779 LibTIFF vulnerabilities
Title: LibTIFF vulnerabilities
Summary: LibTIFF could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it opened a
specially crafted file.
USN-3906-1 and USN-3864-1 fixed several vulnerabilities in LibTIFF. This update
provides the corresponding update for Ubuntu 12.04 ESM.
Original advisory details:
It was discovered that LibTIFF incorrectly handled certain malformed
images. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially
crafted image, a remote attacker could crash the application, leading to a
denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code with user privileges.
Instructions: In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.

libtiff: heap-based buffer over-read in TIFFWriteScanline function in tif_write.c
TIFFWriteScanline in tif_write.c in LibTIFF 3.8.2 has a heap-based buffer over-read, as demonstrated by bmp2tiff.
An integer overflow has been discovered in libtiff in TIFFSetupStrips:tif_write.c, which could lead to a heap-based buffer overflow in TIFFWriteScanline:tif_write.c. An attacker may use this vulnerability to corrupt memory or cause Denial of Service.
Statement: This vulnerability is rated as low severity because it causes a denial of service due to a heap-based buffer over-read, it may crash the application, it does not pose a significant risk to system security.
