  • Crash is triggered immediately upon opening a malformed PDF file containing a malformed TTF font; monitor AcroRd32/Acrobat processes for access violation exceptions originating from CoolType.dll (CTInit) during PDF open events.
  • Look for heap-based memory corruption in CoolType.dll (CTInit function) triggered by malformed TTF font data embedded in a PDF; the write occurs at a large negative offset (-690332 / 0xfff57764) from a heap allocation base.
  • Stack trace involving CoolType!CTInit and AGM!AGMInitialize is characteristic of this vulnerability; alert on crash dumps or AV telemetry showing this call chain in Adobe Acrobat/Reader processes.
  • Reproduces on Adobe Acrobat Reader DC version 2019.012.20040 on Windows 10; flag this specific version in asset inventory as unpatched and prioritize upgrade to versions beyond 2019.021.20056.
  • ·The vulnerability is described as potentially an unfixed variant of CVE-2019-8042; detections built for CVE-2019-8042 may have near-identical signatures but may not fully cover this variant.
