A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Integrated Management Controller (IMC) Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to inject arbitrary commands that are executed with root privileges on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of command input by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malicious commands to the web-based management interface of the affected software. A successful exploit could allow the attacker, with read-only privileges, to inject and execute arbitrary, system-level commands with root privileges on an affected device.

- →Exploit vector is the web-based management interface of Cisco IMC; monitor for authenticated HTTP requests containing injected shell metacharacters or command separators sent to the IMC web management interface ↗
- →A read-only privileged authenticated user executing system-level commands as root is anomalous; alert on privilege escalation from low-privilege IMC accounts to root-level process execution ↗
- →Track Cisco Bug ID CSCvn21003 for vendor patch and signature updates related to this specific command injection flaw in Cisco IMC ↗
- ·Exploitation requires authentication; attacker must have at minimum read-only credentials to the Cisco IMC web-based management interface before injecting commands ↗
- ·No workarounds are available; the only mitigation is applying the vendor-released software update ↗
