  • Crash triggered immediately upon opening a malformed PDF containing a JP2 image stream with a single-byte mutation at file offset 0x172b4 (byte changed from 0x1C to 0xFF); monitor AcroRd32 for double-free heap corruption on PDF open.
  • Double-free occurs in AcroRd32.dll within CTJPEGTiledContentWriter and AX_PDXlateToHostEx call chain when processing a malformed JP2 stream inside a PDF; look for heap block already freed verifier stops in AcroRd32 process.
  • The vulnerability is triggered by a malformed JP2 (JPEG 2000) image stream embedded in a PDF; detect PDFs with anomalous JP2 stream data as a suspicious indicator.
  • Crash reproduces on Adobe Acrobat Reader DC version 2019.012.20035 on Windows 10; flag execution of this specific version opening external PDF files.
  • ·Exploitation requires the target to open a specially crafted PDF file; the crash occurs immediately upon opening the document, requiring no further user interaction beyond file open.
  • ·The PoC was confirmed with PageHeap (Application Verifier) enabled; behaviour on standard production systems without heap verification may differ in crash manifestation.
