  • Crash triggered immediately upon opening a malformed PDF containing a crafted JP2 image stream; monitor for access violation (code c0000005) in JP2KLib!IJP2KException::GetErrString or JP2KLib!JP2KCopyRect call stack frames within AcroRd32 processes.
  • The exploit modifies only 5 bytes inside a binary JP2 image stream embedded in a PDF: 4 bytes at offset 0x195 and 1 byte at offset 0x1ED. Inspect JP2 streams in PDFs for anomalous values at these offsets as a triage indicator.
  • Heap-based buffer overflow occurs in JP2KLib.dll (JP2KImageDecodeImageRegion) called from AcroRd32.dll; alert on write access violations at JP2KLib!IJP2KException::GetErrString+0x3224 (eip=6a005324).
  • ·Reproduces on Adobe Acrobat Reader DC version 2019.012.20036 on Windows 10; behavior confirmed both with and without PageHeap enabled, indicating the crash is not an instrumentation artifact.
