A stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability in Juniper Networks SBR Carrier with EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) authentication configured, allows an attacker sending specific packets causing the radius daemon to crash resulting with a Denial of Service (DoS) or leading to remote code execution (RCE). By continuously sending this specific packets, an attacker can repeatedly crash the radius daemon, causing a sustained Denial of Service (DoS). This issue affects Juniper Networks SBR Carrier: 8.4.1 versions prior to 8.4.1R19; 8.5.0 versions prior to 8.5.0R10; 8.6.0 versions prior to 8.6.0R4.

Detection & IOCsextracted from sources · hover to see the quote
- →Monitor for crashes or unexpected restarts of the RADIUS daemon (radiusd) on Juniper SBR Carrier systems, which may indicate exploitation attempts via malformed EAP packets ↗
- →Alert on repeated/sustained RADIUS daemon crashes, as continuous sending of exploit packets is the attacker's method for sustained DoS ↗
- →Focus detection on EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) traffic directed at SBR Carrier RADIUS endpoints; anomalous or malformed EAP packets are the attack vector ↗
- ·Vulnerability is only exploitable when EAP authentication is configured on Juniper SBR Carrier; systems without EAP enabled are not affected ↗
- ·Affected versions are SBR Carrier 8.4.1 prior to 8.4.1R19, 8.5.0 prior to 8.5.0R10, and 8.6.0 prior to 8.6.0R4; detections should prioritize these unpatched versions ↗
