CVE-2022-3324 [HIGH] CWE-121 vim: stack buffer overflow in win_redr_ruler() at drawscreen.c
vim: stack buffer overflow in win_redr_ruler() at drawscreen.c
Stack-based Buffer Overflow in GitHub repository vim/vim prior to 9.0.0598.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability was found in Vim's win_redr_ruler() function of the src/drawscreen.c file. The issue occurs when using a negative array index with a negative width window. This flaw allows an attacker to trick a user into opening a specially crafted file, which triggers the bug, causing an application to crash, possibly executing code and corrupting memory.
Statement: Red Hat Product Security has rated this issue as having a Low security impact, because the "victim" has to run an untrusted file IN SCRIPT MODE. Someone who is running untrusted files in script mode is equivalent to someone just taking a random python script

FAQ: Is Azure Linux the only Microsoft product that includes this open-source library and is therefore potentially affected by this vulnerability?
One of the main benefits to our customers who choose to use the Azure Linux distro is the commitment to keep it up to date with the most recent and most secure versions of the open source libraries with which the distro is composed. Microsoft is committed to transparency in this work which is why we began publishing CSAF/VEX in October 2025. See this blog post for more information. If impact to additional products is identified, we will update the CVE to reflect this.
