Voltronic Power ViewPower Pro Deserialization of Untrusted Data Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Voltronic Power ViewPower Pro. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the RMI interface, which listens on TCP port 41009 by default. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in deserialization of untrusted data. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of SYSTEM. Was ZDI-CAN-21012.

port41009
  • Monitor for inbound TCP connections to port 41009 (RMI interface) on ViewPower Pro hosts, especially from untrusted/external sources, as exploitation of this deserialization vulnerability requires no authentication.
  • Alert on any process spawned in the context of SYSTEM originating from the ViewPower Pro RMI service process, as successful exploitation results in code execution as SYSTEM.
  • No authentication is required to reach the vulnerable RMI endpoint; treat any external network access to port 41009 as high-priority alert.
  • ·The vulnerable RMI port (41009) is the DEFAULT port; installations may have been reconfigured to use a different port, so detection rules should account for non-default port configurations.
  • ·Only ViewPower Pro version 2.0-22165 is confirmed affected; scope detection to that specific version.
