Detection & IOCsextracted from sources · hover to see the quote

  • Attack vector is network-based; monitor for specially crafted protocol messages sent to the Windows Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) server port(s), which could indicate exploitation attempts targeting RCE on the RAS server machine.
  • Monitor for admin users connecting outbound to untrusted or unknown RRAS/VPN servers; a malicious server can execute commands on the connecting client machine upon connection.
  • Alert on users remoting into servers not under organizational control; exploitation requires a user to remote into an attacker-controlled server, which then executes commands on the user's machine without consent.
  • ·Dual attack surface: the vulnerability can be exploited both server-side (unauthenticated attacker sends crafted protocol message to RRAS server) and client-side (admin user connects to a malicious server). Detection strategies must account for both directions.
  • ·User Interaction is required (UI:R) for the client-side attack path; exploitation is not fully passive and requires an admin-level user to initiate a remote connection to the attacker-controlled server.
  • ·As of publication, the vulnerability has not been publicly disclosed or exploited in the wild (Exploitation Less Likely), but customer action (patching) is required.
