NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Linux contains a vulnerability in the kernel mode layer where the size of an ioctl input buffer is not validated, allowing an unprivileged caller to trigger an out-of-bounds write in kernel memory. A successful exploit of this vulnerability might lead to code execution, denial of service, escalation of privileges, information disclosure, and data tampering.

nvidia-driver: xorg-x11-drv-nvidia: nvidia-driver: privilege escalation via unvalidated ioctl buffer size
A flaw was found in the NVIDIA GPU display driver. A local, unprivileged user can exploit this vulnerability by submitting an input/output control (ioctl) request with an unvalidated buffer size to the driver's kernel layer. This causes an out-of-bounds write in kernel memory, which may allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges, crash the system leading to a Denial of Service (DoS), or tamper with sensitive data.
