GitPython before 3.1.50 fails to validate newline characters in the section parameter of config_writer(), allowing attackers to inject arbitrary section headers into .git/config. Attackers can inject newlines to create a forged [core] section with hooksPath pointing to attacker-controlled directories, achieving remote code execution when git hooks are triggered.

CVE-2026-67326 [HIGH] gitpython-developers GitPython up to 3.1.49 Config Writer config_writer section injection (EUVD-2026-51814)
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in gitpython-developers GitPython up to 3.1.49. The impacted element is the function config_writer of the component Config Writer. Executing a manipulation of the argument section can lead to injection.
This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-67326. The attack can be launched remotely. No exploit exists.
You should upgrade the affected component.

CVE-2026-67326 [HIGH] CWE-20 GitPython before 3.1.50 fails to validate newline characters in the section parameter of config_writer(), allowing attackers to inject arbitrary section headers into .git/config.

CVE-2026-67326 [HIGH] CWE-93 gitpython: GitPython: Remote Code Execution via Newline Injection in config_writer()
gitpython: GitPython: Remote Code Execution via Newline Injection in config_writer()
A flaw was found in GitPython. This vulnerability allows attackers to inject newline characters into the `section` parameter of the `config_writer()` function, leading to the injection of arbitrary section headers into the `.git/config` file. By forging a `[core]` section with a malicious `hooksPath`, an attacker can achieve remote code execution
