In OpenStack Cinder through 29.0.0, cross-project information disclosure can occur in the Messages API. A non-admin user with the project-scoped 'member' or 'reader' role making the Block Storage API v3.3 "List messages" call finds the non-expired user messages for other projects included in the response, resulting in the leakage of UUIDs of resources owned by other projects, in addition to the user message about the other projects' resources (which, by design, are sanitized generic messages). All Cinder deployments are affected.

CVE-2026-93856 [MEDIUM] CWE-201 cinder: openstack-cinder: Information disclosure via Block Storage API message listing
cinder: openstack-cinder: Information disclosure via Block Storage API message listing
A flaw was found in OpenStack Cinder. An authenticated user with project-level access can retrieve messages intended for other projects by issuing a message listing request to the Block Storage API. This flaw leads to information disclosure, exposing resource identifiers and status messages belonging to other tenants.
Statement: This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact by Red Hat because an authenticated user with project-level access can list Cinder user messages that belong to other projects. The response contains predefined, sanitized error text and resource identifiers. It does not include the owning project ID, so the caller cannot tell which project a resource identifier belongs to.
